Laurie, who plays Dr. Gregory House in the Fox hit House, was made a member of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace, says the Associated Press.

The honor is the first level in the British order of chivalry, which acknowledges achievements by individuals of the United Kingdom.

Laurie, who was born in Oxford, England, in 1959, appeared in British comedies like Blackadder, Jeeves and Wooster, and A Bit of Fry and Laurie before making it big in the US with House. Laurie won Best Actor in a Television Drama awards at the 2006 and 2007 Golden Globes for the Fox medical drama.
